MEAC Announces Weekly Softball Honors, presented by Coca-Cola

NORFOLK, Va., March 14, 2022Morgan State senior Aliya Ewell has been named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Softball Player of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola, it was announced on Monday. Meanwhile, Morgan State junior Victoria Fletcher and Howard freshman Victoria Brown are the Pitcher of the Week and Rookie of the Week, respectively.
 
Ewell (OF, Sr., Portland, Ore.) hit .500 (4-for-8) with three runs scored, two home runs and five RBIs to help Morgan State to a 2-0 record over the weekend in the Mount St. Mary’s Tournament. She went 3-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored and two RBIs in the win over host Mount St. Mary’s. In an 8-0 victory over Cornell, Ewell hit a home run and drove in a game-high three runs.
 
Fletcher (P, Jr., Huntington, Md.) recorded eight strikeouts, while allowing just one hit in a 7-0 complete-game shutout of Mount St. Mary’s on Friday. As a batter, she also added a hit and a run scored.
 
Brown (OF, Fr., Carson, Calif.) batted 1.000 in the doubleheader split against Saint Peter’s, going 1-for-1 with a run scored and a double in the opening game. She followed that with a 3-for-3 effort with two RBIs in the 6-5 nightcap win.
 
Other Top Performers
Vanessa Carrizosa (Coppin State) went 4-for-4 with a run scored and a double in the first game against Drexel.
 
Alyssa Vasquez (Howard) hit .375 (3-for-8) in two games for the Bison and went 3-of-4 with four RBIs, including the game winner, in the victory over Saint Peter's.
