WASHINGTON, D.C. (Feb. 28, 2022) –Howard University men's basketball team grabbed a big home win over South Carolina State (SCSU), 72-62, inside Burr Gymnasium.
With the victory, HU improved to 16-11 (9-4 MEAC) overall while going 8-1 in the month of February.
Despite being outrebounded, 48-36, Howard fought all night on the glass while holding South Carolina State to under 36-percent (22-of-62) shooting.
Reigning Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week freshman Elijah Hawkins led all scorers with 15 points. Redshirt sophomore Steve Settle, III registered 11 points and six boards while Foster netted 10 points in the victory.
For SCSU (15-14, 7-6 MEAC), Jemal Davis had a team-best 13 points while Deaquan Williams notched a double-double (15 rebounds and 11 points) in the loss.
Morgan State 82, Maryland Eastern Shore 48
BALTIMORE, Md. (Feb. 28, 2022) – Morgan State men's basketball scored 48 points inside the paint and hit seven three-pointers to propel to an 82-48 win over Maryland Eastern Shore on Monday night at Hill Field House.
Morgan improved to 11-13 overall, 6-6 in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference action and extended their win streak to three in their home finale win.
Lagio Grantsaan led the Bears with a game-high 19 points on 8 of 15 shooting and collected seven rebounds. De'Torrion Ware added 17 points and shot 4 of 5 from beyond the arc. Malik Miller was 6 for 9 from the floor to finish with 14 points.
Da'Shawn Phillip led Eastern Shore (10-14, 5-8 MEAC) with 10 points and four rebounds.
Norfolk State 75, North Carolina Central 46
NORFOLK, Va. (Feb. 28, 2022) – Senior Kris Bankston had a career-high 21 points as the Norfolk State men's basketball team posted a 75-46 win over NC Central.
NSU scored the first four points of the game and never looked back. The closest the Eagles came to the Spartans was at two points just one minute and 45 seconds into the game. When NCCU score a layup and free throw with 8:43 left in the first half, it marked the last time the Spartan lead was single digits, 26-17.
Bankston added 11 rebounds for his third double-double of the season. Senior Dana Tate Jr. nearly had his first double-double with 18 points and nine rebounds. Redshirt-Senior Jalen Hawkins was a third NSU player to reach double digits with 11 points. In total eight different Spartan to score.
Eric Boone led NCCU with 18 points.
Coppin State 80, Delaware State 67
BALTIMORE, Md. (Feb. 28, 2022) – Sita Conteh led four Eagles in double figures as the Coppin State men's basketball team pulled away to defeat Delaware State, 80-67, on Monday night at PEC Arena. With the win, the Eagles improve to 6-7 in the MEAC while the Hornets fall to 0-13.
Conteh buried six 3-pointers and grabbed eight rebounds to lead Coppin offensively. Mike Hood added 16 points off the bench, Kyle Cardaci hit three 3-pointers for 14 points and Nendah Tarke once again filled the sheet with 13 points, ten rebounds, six steals and five assists.
Myles Carter led Delaware State with 17 points and added six rebounds, five assists and two steals.
