MEAC Announces Weekly Men’s Basketball Honors, presented by Coca-Cola

NORFOLK, Va., March 1, 2022 North Carolina Central redshirt junior guard Eric Boone has been selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, presented by Cola-Cola, it was announced on Tuesday. Coppin State redshirt freshman guard Nendah Tarke was selected as Defensive Player of the Week. Rookie of the Week honors went to freshman guard Elijah Hawkins of Howard.
 
Boone (G, 6-2, r-Jr., Lexington, Ky.) shot 55% from the floor in two games this past week, while averaging 23.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game for the Eagles. Against Howard on Saturday, he scored a season-high 29 points and grabbed five boards. He followed that outing with an 18-point, six-rebound performance at Norfolk State.
 
Tarke (G, 6-4, r-Fr., Gaithersburg, Md.) grabbed a total of 15 rebounds (14 defensive) and six steals in Coppin State’s two games this week. In the win over Delaware State, he recorded a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds and added six steals, five assists, and a block.
 
Hawkins (G, 5-11, Fr., Washington, D.C.) averaged 16.0 points per game this past week, shooting a combined 57% from 3-point range (4-for-7) while also averaging 3.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game. He tallied 17 points in the win over North Carolina Central and added 15 points and five rebounds against South Carolina State.
 
Other Top Performers
Sita Conteh (Coppin State) dropped 22 points on 6-for-16 shooting, hitting six 3-pointers against Delaware State.
 
Greg Spurlock (Coppin State) had five points, two blocks and two assists against Delaware State.
 
Malik Miller (Morgan State) scored 20 points and grabbed 10 boards in the road win over Delaware State.
 
Dana Tate (Norfolk State) averaged 16.5 points and 9.0 rebounds per game for the week.
 
Kris Monroe (North Carolina Central) had 13 points and nine rebounds against Howard.
 
Deaquan Williams (South Carolina State) tallied a double-double of 11 points and 15 rebounds against Howard.
 
Antonio “TJ” Madlock (South Carolina State) averaged 14.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game against Norfolk State and Howard.
