DURHAM, N.C. (February 5, 2022) – For the third consecutive game, the North Carolina Central University men's basketball program saw the game decided on the final shot; and, once again, NCCU came away with a narrow win, 69-68, over Coppin State on Saturday, Feb. 5 inside McDougald-McLendon Arena.
NCCU (10-10, 4-1 MEAC) took early command from the game as it raced out to a 14-2 lead over CSU (5-16, 4-3 MEAC) in the first seven minutes, but CSU regained its composure and charged back at NCCU. CSU knotted the game up twice in the first half, but NCCU was able to take a narrow one-point lead to the locker room, 37-36.
Justin Wright scored 17 of his career-high 25 points in the second half to help NCCU to the big win, and Kris Monroe recorded his second double-double of the year with 10 points and 12 rebounds.
Corbett led CSU with a big double-double of 17 points and 12 boards, followed by Nendah Tarke contributed 13 points with eight caroms. Justin Steers put in 12 points with a game-high six assists, and Kyle Cardaci matched him with 12 points of his own.
Howard 72, Maryland Eastern Shore 64
WASHINGTON, D.C. (February 5, 2022) – Howard University men's basketball team defeated the Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks, 72-64, inside Burr Gymnasium.
With the win, HU improved to 9-10 (3-3 MEAC) while the Hawk dropped to 7-10 (2-4 MEAC).
Graduate Kyle Foster led all scorers with 20 points on 7-of-13 shooting from the floor, including 4-of-9 from downtown.
Reigning Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week Elijah Hawkins recorded 12 points, eight assists and four boards while redshirt sophomore Steve Settle, III added 10 points and four rebounds in the win.
For Maryland Eastern Shore, Nathaniel Pollard, Jr. had a team-best 19 points while Chace Davis chipped in 10 points.
