WASHINGTON, D.C. – Elijah Hawkins scored a team-high 17 points to lead the Howard men’s basketball team to a 77-67 win over North Carolina Central on Saturday at Burr Gymnasium.
Howard improved to 15-11 overall and 8-4 in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference with the win. North Carolina Central fell to 14-13 and 7-4.
Eric Boone led the Eagles with a game-high 29 points on 8-of-14 shooting from the field and went 13-of-19 from the free throw line.
Maryland Eastern Shore 70, Coppin State 50
PRINCESS ANNE, Md. — The University of Maryland Eastern Shore men's basketball team grabbed their tenth win of the season on Saturday (February 26) as they cruised to a 70-50 win over the Coppin State University Eagles inside the Hytche Center.
Saturday's win completed the season sweep of Coppin State. Also, the win secured the program's first double digit win season since the 2016-17 campaign.
For Maryland Eastern Shore (10-13, 5-7 MEAC), Kevon Voyles had a career-high 17 points in the game and was followed by Chace Davis who had 14 points. Da’Shawn Phillip turned in one of his best all-around games of the year as he had eight points, eight assists, six rebounds and three steals. The eight assists for Phillip were his best output in a Hawk uniform in that category.
Mike Hood led Coppin State (6-21, 5-7 MEAC) with 12 points.
Morgan State 76, Delaware State 69
DOVER, Del. – The Morgan State men's basketball team flew out of the gates on Saturday, building a 21-point advantage against Delaware State, and was able to hold on 76-69 at Memorial Hall in Dover.
The Bears swept the season series with Delaware State (2-23, 0-12 MEAC), winning 82-70 inside Hill Field House on January 30.
Malik Miller notched his fifth double-double of the season as he finished the night with a team-high 20 points and 10 rebounds.
Miller connected on 8-of-15 from the field and went 4-for-6 from the stripe to help Morgan improve to 10-13 overall and sit at 5-6 in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. Lagio Grantsaan had 16 points and four rebounds, while Sherwyn Devonish added 13 points.
Myles Carter scored a game-high 32 points for Delaware State.
Norfolk State 63, South Carolina State 59
NORFOLK, Va. – Senior Dana Tate Jr. had a team-high 15 points to lead the Norfolk State men's basketball team to a 63-59 win over South Carolina State on Saturday evening.
Tate was one of three Spartans in double figures as both seniors Joe Bryant, Jr. and Kris Bankston each reached 10+ with 12 and 10 points, respectively.
Tate nearly had a double-double but finish with his 15 points and nine rebounds. Junior Daryl Anderson had a game and career-high five blocks on the night to go along with his four rebounds.
Antonio “TJ” Madlock had a game-high 17 points and Omar Croskey had 15 for SCSU.
