Vanessa Blair-Lewis will likely be remembered as one of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference's (MEAC) best coaches in women's basketball, having turned Bethune-Cookman into a perrennial MEAC contender and national mid-major power in the latter 2010s and into 2020.
From 2008-20, Blair-Lewis won 196 games in Daytona Beach, Fla., while going 117-75 in conference play for a program that had enjoyed just two winning seasons in 19 years prior to her arrival. The Wildcats made four postseason appearances during Blair-Lewis' tenure -- including the program's first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance, in which Bethune-Cookman faced off against national power Notre Dame.
Blair-Lewis was a four-time MEAC Coach of the Year (2010, 2016, 2017, 2018) and led the Wildcats to four MEAC regular-season titles. She is also the first MEAC coach to be named BOXTOROW National Coach of the Year, and under Blair-Lewis' leadership, the Wildcats were twice ranked in the Mid-Major Top 25.
In each of Blair-Lewis' last four seasons at Bethune-Cookman, the Wilcats boasted a 20-win season (including 24 wins in 2017-18). She coaches several All-MEAC performers while in Daytona Beach, including 2019 MEAC Player of the Year Angel Golden, 2018 MEAC Defensive Player of the Year Ashanti Hunt and two-time Defensive Player of the Year Kailyn Williams (2016, 2017).
Blair-Lewis is now the head women's basketball coach at George Mason University.
