MEAC Announces Men’s Basketball Weekly Honors, Presented by Coca-Cola

NORFOLK, Va., Feb. 22, 2022 Norfolk State senior guard Joe Bryant, Jr. and Delaware State graduate guard Myles Carter have been selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s Basketball Co-Players of the Week, presented by Cola-Cola, it was announced on Tuesday. North Carolina Central junior guard Eric Boone was selected as Defensive Player of the Week. Rookie of the Week honors went to freshman guard Elijah Hawkins of Howard.
 
Bryant (G, 6-1, Sr., Norfolk, Va.) averaged 24.5 points, 5.0 assists, 4.5 rebounds and 1.0 steal per game for the Spartans this past week, going a combined 18-for-41 (44%) from the floor. He opened with 29 points, six rebounds and six assists against Coppin State, before turning in a 20-point, 4-assist, 2-steal effort on Monday against Morgan State.
 
Carter (G, 6-1, Gr., Philadelphia, Pa.) shot 55% from the floor in two games this past week, averaged 24.5 points, 8.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists per contest. He started with 22 points and 12 rebounds against North Carolina Central and on Monday, he went 10-for-13 from the floor against South Carolina State, dropping 27 points to go along with five rebounds and three assists.
 
Boone (F, 6-2, r-Sr., Lexington, Ky.) averaged 7.5 rebounds and 4.5 steals per game for the Eagles. Of his 15 total rebounds, 10 were on the defensive end. He also notched four steals against Delaware State before grabbing five against Maryland Eastern Shore.
 
Hawkins (G, 5-11, Fr., Washington, D.C.) averaged 20.0 points a game this past week, shooting a combined 52% from the floor (14-for-27) and also averaging 6.0 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game. He had 17 points and five assists in the NBA HBCU Classic against Morgan State, and he added 23 points, seven assists and four steals on 8-for-16 shooting against Coppin State, hitting three 3-pointers.
 
Other Top Performers
Mike Hood (Coppin State) dropped 28 points on 7-for-10 shooting, hitting four 3-pointers against Howard.
 
Greg Spurlock (Coppin State) had eight points against Howard.
 
Nendah Tarke (Coppin State) had 18 points and seven boards against Norfolk State, before turning in a 14-point, 7-rebound, 3-assist, 2-steal effort against Howard.
 
Kyle Foster (Howard) had 18 points in the NBA HBCU Classic against Morgan State, followed by a 27-point performance against Coppin State.
 
Chace Davis (Maryland Eastern Shore) dropped 22 points against North Carolina Central.
 
Justin Wright (North Carolina Central) went for 32 points and nine rebounds against Delaware State.
 
Jemal Davis (South Carolina State) blocked three shots against Delaware State.
 
Rahsaan Edwards (South Carolina State) dropped 21 points to go along with four assists and three steals against Delaware State.
 
Antonio “TJ” Madlock (South Carolina State) had 18 points and seven assists against Maryland Eastern Shore.
