BALTIMORE, Md., Feb. 16, 2022 -- The Morgan State women's basketball team closed out its three-game homestand unbeaten, as the Lady Bears defeated visiting Delaware State, 67-42 in a rare Wednesday evening Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) contest at Hill Field House.
The game was originally scheduled for Jan. 29, but was postponed due to inclement weather. The two teams will meet again next Saturday (Feb. 26) at Memorial Hall in Dover, Del.
Morgan State senior Taylor Addison shot a perfect 7-for-7 from the floor, including two three-pointers to finish with a game-high 16 points. Earlier in the season Addison shot 6-for-6 from the floor and finished with 18 points against Coppin State (1/15).
Ja'Niah Henson totaled 13 points and Sunshine McCrae added 11 points, as the host Lady Bears matched a season-best six-game winning streak and improved to 7-1 at home.
McCrae led the Lady Bears (13-6, 7-2 MEAC) with a game-high seven rebounds and Addison added six, as Morgan State held a 40-27 rebounding advantage over the Hornets.
The Lady Bears forced 24 Delaware State turnovers with 14 coming by way of steals. Ashia McCalla tallied a game-high six steals to go with seven points.
Delaware State (0-18, 0-9 MEAC) took a 7-2 lead on a layup by Unique Miller with 6:59 left in the first period. That's when the host Lady Bears responded with a 21-2 spurt, capped off by a three-pointer from Henson to give Morgan State a 23-9 lead after a quarter of play.
Morgan State which carried a 42-18 lead at the half, led by as much as 30 points (63-33) when McCrae scored on a layup with 6:23 remaining in the game.
Delaware State was led by Alexis Moragne's 14 points, six rebounds and three assists.
The Hornets shot 44 percent (11-of-25) for the game, including 2-for-5 from three-point range. The guests also hit 18-of-31 (58 percent) from the charity line.
Morgan State finished the game connecting on 28-of-73 shot attempts (38 percent), including 26 percent (6-of-23) from beyond the arc. The Lady Bears were 5-of-11 (45 percent) from the free throw line.
