NORFOLK, Va., Feb. 15, 2022—Howard sophomore forward Anzhane’ Hutton was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola, the conference office announced today. North Carolina Central guard Diamond Thomas was named Rookie of the Week, while Norfolk State sophomore forward Mahoganie Williams earned Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Hutton (6-0, So., F, Dallas, Texas) was 10-for-13 from the floor (77%) in two games for the Bison this past week – a week that saw them hand Norfolk State its first MEAC loss of the season. In that contest, Hutton was one rebound shy of a double-double, going for 19 points on 6-for-9 shooting, nine boards, three steals, three assists and two blocks. She then went a perfect 4-for-4 from the floor against Delaware State for 10 points to go along with four rebounds and two assists. For the week, she averaged 14.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.0 block per contest.
Thomas (5-4, Fr., G, Knightdale, N.C.) averaged 17.0 points and 3.5 rebounds in two games this past week, going a combined 11-for-30 (37%) from the floor and 7-for-18 (39%) from 3-point range. She dropped 20 points and hit three 3-pointers against Morgan State, before turning in a 14-point effort against Coppin State, going 4-for-9 from distance. Thomas has scored in double figures in 10 straight games.
Williams (6-1, So., F, Monroe, La.) averaged 9.0 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 2.0 blocks in three games this past week. Of her 27 total rebounds for the week, 20 came on the defensive end. She opened the week with six defensive boards and four steals against Howard, before blocking a pair of shots and collecting seven defensive rebounds against Maryland Eastern Shore. In Monday’s win over Delaware State, Williams grabbed 12 rebounds (seven defensive), while blocking four shots and nabbing two steals.

Mossi Staples (Coppin State) scored 23 points on 5-for-10 shooting against North Carolina Central, going 10-for-11 from the free throw line.
Jewel Watkins (Coppin State) had 10 points and three assists against North Carolina Central.
Alexis Moragne (Delaware State) dropped 21 points against Howard.
Nyla Cooper (Howard) dropped 16 points and dished out three assists against Delaware State.
Bairesha Gill-Miles (Maryland Eastern Shore) dropped 18 points against Delaware State on 7-for-9 shooting.
Taylor Addison (Morgan State) had 10 points and 10 rebounds against South Carolina State.
Ashia McCalla (Morgan State) dropped 21 points, hitting three 3-pointers, while also recording two steals and two assists against North Carolina Central.
Janay Turner (Norfolk State) scored a career-high 20 points against Delaware State after turning in a 17-point effort against Maryland Eastern Shore.
Tianna Carter (North Carolina Central) recorded a double-double (14 points, 13 rebounds) against Coppin State.
