NORFOLK, Va., Dec. 6, 2022—Howard University junior guard Destiny Howell was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola, the conference office announced today. Maryland Eastern Shore guard Jála Bannerman was named Rookie of the Week. Norfolk State graduate guard Camille Downs named Defensive Player of the Week.
Howell (6-0, Jr., G, Queens, N.Y.) averaged 23.0 points, 3.0 rebounds and 3.0 steals per game in a pair of Bison wins this past week, shooting a combined 19-for-39 (49.0%) from the floor. Against American, she dropped a career-high 34 points on 13-for-21 shooting, hitting five 3-pointers and adding four rebounds, three steals and three blocks. She followed that up against Elon with 12 points and three steals.
Bannerman (5-6, Fr., G, Baltimore, Md.) averaged 14.0 points and 1.7 assists per game as the Hawks went 2-1 this past week. She dropped 17 points in wins over both Virginia Union and Navy, going 5-for-11 from the floor in both contests – and in the Navy game, she hit four 3-pointers and dished out three assists. She added eight points and four rebounds against James Madison.
Downs (5-10, Gr., G, Fredericksburg, Va.) averaged 4.5 steals per game in helping the Spartans extend their winning streak to eight games with wins over Hampton and NJIT. She grabbed five steals against Hampton and added four more against NJIT.

Lucia Reos (Coppin State) scored six points each against Campbell and William & Mary.
Jewel Watkins (Coppin State) dropped a career-high 35 points and grabbed eight rebounds against William & Mary, including 21 in the fourth quarter to help force overtime.
Savannah Brooks (Delaware State) scored 12 points and grabbed five rebounds at West Virginia.
Tyshonne Tollie (Delaware State) grabbed 13 rebounds at West Virginia and scored 14 points against Delaware.
Denijsha Wilson (Delaware State) had 15 points and six rebounds against Delaware.
Brooklyn Fort-Davis (Howard) grabbed seven rebounds to go along with two steals against Elon.
Zamara Haynes (Maryland Eastern Shore) had 24 points and six rebounds against James Madison after dropping 14 against Navy.
Ja’Niah Henson (Morgan State) tied her career high with 28 points against Towson to go along with four steals.
Charlene Shepherd (Morgan State) recorded a double-double (13 points, 12 rebounds) against Towson.
Kimeira Burks (North Carolina Central) dropped a season-high 21 points and hit a career-high five 3-pointers at Chicago State.
Jerni Kiaku (North Carolina Central) scored nine points against both West Virginia and Chicago State.
