NORFOLK, Va., Dec. 6, 2022 – Senior guard Sam Sessoms of Coppin State has been named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola, the league announced today. Junior guard Justin Wright of North Carolina Central was announced as the Defensive Player of the Week.
Sessoms (6-0, r-Sr., G, Philadelphia, Pa.) averaged 28.5 points, 5.5 assists and 3.0 rebounds in two games this past week, going a combined 22-for-33 (.667) from the floor and 4-for-11 (.364) from 3-point range. He dropped a season-high 35 points In a win over Loyola (Md.), going 15-for-22 from the floor, and hit the game-winning shot with 1.5 seconds remaining. He also had four assists in that contest – and against UMBC, Sessoms dropped 22 points on 7-for-11 shooting to go along with seven assists and five steals.
Wright (6-2, Jr., G, Greenville, N.C.) averaged 2.3 steals per game as the Eagles went 2-1 in three games for the week. He grabbed three steals each in a win over UNC Asheville and a loss to Radford, and he added another steal in a dominant win later in the week over St. Andrews.

Nendah Tarke (Coppin State) grabbed a season-high 10 rebounds and five steals Loyola (Md.).
Steve Settle III (Howard) recorded a double-double (14 points, 10 rebounds) against Hampton, and also had 14 points against Yale.
Da’Shawn Phillip (Maryland Eastern Shore) dropped 17 points and grabbed four rebounds in a win over Lehigh, then added 12 points and four boards against Liberty.
Nathaniel Pollard, Jr. (Maryland Eastern Shore) had 10 rebounds, eight points, three steals and a blocked shot against Lehigh.
Malik Miller (Morgan State) notched a double-double (24 points, 14 rebounds) against Bowling Green, to go along with four assists, after dropping a game-high 26 against Virginia University of Lynchburg.
Kris Bankston (Norfolk State) dropped 12 points on 6-for-7 shooting against Old Dominion after turning in a 14-point, 4-rebound effort at No. 1 Houston.
Kris Monroe (North Carolina Central) dropped 23 points each against UNC Asheville and Radford, and he added 11 boards against the Highlanders for a double-double.
