NORFOLK, Va., Dec. 20, 2022—North Carolina Central redshirt junior guard Kimeira Burks was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola, the conference office announced today. North Carolina Central’s Jerni Kiaki was named Rookie of the Week, while Delaware State freshman guard/forward Naomi Zulueta earned Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Burks (5-8, r-Jr., G, Chicago, Ill.) dropped a season-high 23 points, hitting five 3-pointers, in the Eagles’ win at Western Carolina on Monday. She went 8-for-12 from the floor in that contest, while also grabbing seven rebounds. For the week, she shot 60% from the floor and 75% from behind the arc.
Kiaku (5-7, Fr., G, Garner, N.C.) keyed a pair of Eagle wins this past week, including a 20-point effort on 8-for-15 shooting against Appalachian State. For the week, Kiaku shot 50% (10-for-20) from the floor and made six of her seven free throws.
Zulueta (5-7, Fr., G/F, Lancaster, Pa.) grabbed 12 rebounds – 11 of which came on the defensive end – and notched five steals in the Hornets’ contest against Hofstra on Sunday.

Jewel Watkins (Coppin State) dropped 21 points and grabbed seven rebounds against George Mason.
Savannah Brooks (Delaware State) dropped a career-high 16 points on 7-for-13 shooting against Hofstra to go with three steals and two blocks.
Jayla Johnson (Delaware State) was a perfect 4-for-4 from the floor against Hofstra, recording 11 points.
Kaniyah Harris (Howard) grabbed five steals against North Texas.
Destiny Howell (Howard) had 21 points and three assists against North Texas.
Nile Miller (Howard) had eight points and four rebounds against North Texas.
