NORFOLK, Va., Dec. 13, 2022 – Senior guard Sam Sessoms of Coppin State and Norfolk State senior guard Joe Bryant, Jr. have been named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s Basketball Co-Players of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola, the league announced today. Senior forward Chris Ford of Norfolk State was announced as the Defensive Player of the Week.
Sessoms (6-0, r-Sr., G, Philadelphia, Pa.) averaged 23.0 points and 7.0 assists in two games for the Eagles this past week, going a combined 17-for-35 (.490) from the floor and 4-for-9 (.440) from 3-point range. Against N.C. State, he dropped 24 points, hitting three 3-pointers, and dished out nine assists, and he followed that up with a 22-point, 5-assist, 3-steal performance at East Carolina, shooting 9-for-18 from the floor.
Bryant (6-1, Sr., G, Norfolk, Va.) was key in Norfolk State’s comeback win at William & Mary, going 8-for-17 from the floor and hitting five 3-pointers en route to a 24-point effort. The reigning MEAC Player of the Year also grabbed six rebounds, dished out five assists and grabbed two steals.
Ford (6-8, Sr., F, Chesterfield, Va.) blocked a career-high seven shots in the Spartans’ comeback win at William & Mary, becoming the first player in program history to record seven blocks in a single game since MEAC Hall of Famer Kyle O’Quinn in 2012.
Other Top Performers
Nendah Tarke (Coppin State) had 11 rebounds and two steals against N.C. State, while also recording three steals at East Carolina.
O’Koye Parker (Delaware State) dropped a career-high 24 points, hitting six 3-pointers against Georgian Court.
Steve Settle III (Howard) scored 18 points to go along with nine rebounds and three steals against VCU.
