WASHINGTON, D.C. -- 
Four players scored in double figures as Coppin State took Georgetown to overtime, but the Eagles fell just short 99-89 in a nationally televised game on Tuesday night at Capital One Arena.

Playing in their second game in as many days, Coppin now stands at 0-2 on the season.

Justin Steers posted a career-high 21 points to go along with 12 rebounds and three blocks while hitting 5 of 10 from the floor and 11 of 13 from the stripe. Nendah Tarke hit four 3-pointers and finished with 17 points with six rebounds while tallying four steals. Sam Sessoms also notched a double-double with 16 points and 10 assists, becoming  the first CSU player to record at least 10 assists in a game since Taariq Cephas dished out 12 assists at North Carolina  Central on Jan. 24, 2015.

South Carolina State gave host South Carolina all the Gamecocks could manage before falling short in an 80-77 season-opening loss Tuesday at Colonial Life Center.

Five Bulldogs scored in double figures, with junior Lesown Hallums leading the way with a game-high 20 points, three rebounds, three assists, two blocks and a steal. Hallums also posted a solid effort from the floor, connecting 6 of 12 and 6 of 7 from the charity stripe.

Preseason All-MEAC selection Rahsaan Edwards finished with 13 points, seven rebounds and four assists, while Rakeim Gary added 12, Davion Everett 11 and Shaman Alston 10 in the loss.
