MEAC Announces Weekly Men’s Basketball Honors, presented by Coca-Cola

NORFOLK, Va., Nov. 22, 2022 - Senior guard Sam Sessoms of Coppin State and sophomore guard Elijah Hawkins of Howard have been named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s Basketball Co-Players of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola, the league announced today. Senior guard Malik Miller of Morgan State is the MEAC Defensive Player of the Week, while freshman forward Shy Odom of Howard is the MEAC Rookie of the Week.
 
Sessoms (G, 6-0, Sr., Philadelphia, Pa.) averaged 21. 5 points over two games for the week, including a game-high 24 points to go with 10 assists and five rebounds in the overtime win over Tennesee Tech. He recorded a team-high 19 points, eight boards, and three assists at Marshall.
 
Hawkins (G, 5-11, So., Washington, D.C.) scored in double figures in each of Howard’s four games last week and posted 18 points and eight assists versus James Madison. He followed that performance with 17 points, six assists and three rebounds against Wyoming in the Paradise Jam Invitational. He closed out the tournament by scoring 12 points and 15 points against Buffalo and Belmont, respectively.
 
Miller (G, 6-4, Sr., Washington, D.C.) grabbed 26 rebounds, seven steals, and three blocked shots in three games during the week. He recorded a game-high 20 points with 10 rebounds, four steals and a blocked shot in an overtime win against Utah Valley in the opening round of the Jamaica Classic. Miller was also named to the Jamaica Classic's Rose Hall Division All-Tournament Team.
 
Odom (F, 6-6, Fr., Chatsworth, CA) produced 10 points against Wyoming, followed by 14 points and six boards in a win over Buffalo. He ended the week with 28 points, 11 rebounds, and four steals.
 
Other Top Performers
George Beale (Norfolk State) tallied nine points, three rebounds, and three steals in a win over Alabama A&M.
 
Jevin Muniz (Delaware State) had a career and team-high 21 points, two assists, and two rebounds against No. 25 Connecticut.
 
Joe Bryant (Norfolk State) had a team-high 23 points and seven rebounds in a road win over Monmouth.
 
Justin Wright (North Carolina Central) led his team in scoring 18.5 points during the week shooting 65% from the floor.
 
Kam’Ron Blue (Coppin State) had seven boards and a steal in an overtime win over Tennessee Tech. Led the team with eight rebounds and four steals at Marshall.
 
Nathaniel Pollard Jr. (Maryland Eastern Shore) had a career-high 15 rebounds along with two steals, nine points, and four assists against George Washington.
 
Steve Settle, III (Howard) had 14 points, eight boards and a pair of steals against Wyoming.
 
Kris Monroe (North Carolina Central) averaged 11.5 points and 9.5 rebounds in two games. He had 15 points and 13 rebounds against Montreat.
