MEAC Announces Weekly Football Honors, presented by Coca-Cola

NORFOLK, Va., Nov. 21, 2022Norfolk State sophomore quarterback Otto Kuhns was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Football Offensive Player of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola, the conference announced today. Norfolk State junior Tyler Long earned the Defensive Player of the Week honor, while Norfolk State freshman Kevon King was named the Rookie of the Week. North Carolina Central senior Robert Mitchell received the Offensive Lineman of the Week award, and North Carolina Central junior kicker Adrian Olivo was named Specialist of the Week.
 
Kuhns (QB, 6-3, 194, So., Columbus, Ohio) made history at Norfolk State when he amassed six touchdowns for the Spartans in their win over South Carolina State. He is the second player at the university in the past 22 years to score five times through the air in a single game. Kuhns also ran in the game-winning touchdown in the last five minutes of the fourth quarter to end the Norfolk State 2022 season with a win, ending the game with a total of 277 yards.
 
Long (LB, 5-11, 222, Jr., Cincinnati, Ohio) wrestled down the quarterback twice in the backfield for a combined 23 yards against the Bulldogs. He forced a fumble and accumulated three tackles for a loss, ending the day with a career-high 12 solo tackles.
 
King (RB, 5-11, 200, Fr., Chesapeake, Va.) averaged 8.6 yards per carry on 10 attempts against South Carolina State. He broke free for a 57-yard run on Norfolk State’s final offensive drive, putting the Spartans in the red zone and setting up the team’s game-winning touchdown. King ended the day with 86 yards.
 
Mitchell (OL, 6-3, 305, Sr., Millsboro, Del.) graded out at 95% against Tennessee Tech, playing a pivotal part in the Eagles’ offense collecting a total of 359 yards (including 216 on the ground). He tallied 11 pancake blocks to end the day.
 
Olivo (K, 5-10, 185, Jr., Plant City, Fla.) made all three of his field goal attempts, including a 36-yard game-winning field goal as time expired, as the No. 25 Eagles captured a road victory over Tennessee Tech to improve to 9-2 on the season.
 
Other Top Performers
Phillip Richards (Howard) had six punts for 253 yards (42.2 average), including four inside the 20 and a pair of 50+ yards in the win over Morgan State.
 
Quinton Williams (Howard) amassed four touchdowns, ending the day with 261 yards in a win over Morgan State.
 
Latrell Collier (North Carolina Central) rushed for 130 yards, including a 37-yard touchdown in the Eagles’ win over Tennessee Tech. He accumulated two receptions for a total of 11 yards.
 
Manny Smith (North Carolina Central) registered seven tackles (six solo tackles) with a stop for a loss, a forced fumble that resulted in a turnover, and a pass breakup against Tennessee Tech.
 
Max U’Ren (North Carolina Central) collected five tackles, including an assisted hit for a loss against Tennessee Tech.
