NORFOLK, Va., Oct. 5, 2022—Norfolk State sophomore Gidion Sigei was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola, the conference office announced today. Norfolk State sophomore Mercyline Kimaiyo was named Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week.
Sigei (So., Kericho, Kenya) won at the Paul Short Run, in a field of more than 400 athletes, after posting a MEAC-best 8K time of 23:51.1. It was the fastest time by a Spartan in 17 years, and Sigei is now faster than the rest of the MEAC field this season by more than four minutes.
Kimaiyo (So., Kaptagat, Kenya) posted the MEAC’s fastest 6K time of the season this past weekend, finishing fourth in the Paul Short Run with a 20:58.7 in a field of more than 400 athletes.

Ashley Lagat (Delaware State) was fifth in the Don Cathcart Invite with a 23:55.5.
Devin Smith (Delaware State) ran a 25:40.7 over 8K to finish 21st at the Don Cathcart Invite.
Ayoade Adebiyi (Howard) ran a 25:18.8 at the Paul Short Run, the second-fastest time in program history.
Melanie White (Howard) posted a 22:39.5 over 6K at the Paul Short Run.
Nahom Ftwi (Maryland Eastern Shore) ran a personal-best 26:23.5 to finish sixth at the Don Cathcart Invite.
Asshanni Robb (Maryland Eastern Shore) ran a personal-best 24:08.9 over 6K to finish 10th at the Don Cathcart Invite.
