Coppin's Etienne Advances to Finals of Singles Flight at Bedford Cup

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Coppin State's Megan Etienne has advanced to the finals of her singles flight of the Bedford Cup on Sunday after picking up a pair of wins on Friday and Saturday at the Junior Tennis Champions Center.
 
A junior from Boston, Mass., Etienne defeated Towson's Nadeen Shrebati, 3-6, 6-0, 10-2 in the quarterfinals before facing off against her teammate Mackenzie Jones in the semifinals. Jones swept Erin Gray of Towson, 6-2, 6-3 to advance to the final four.  Etienne bested her teammate 6-2, 6-3 and will face George Mason's Dana Edson in Sunday's final.
 
On the other side of the bracket, Kenyange Kaounde def. Jianna Benton, 6-1, 6-1 before falling to Edson in the semifinal, 6-2, 6-2. Emperess Johnson fell to Benton in the quarterfinals, 6-0, 6-1. Kaounde and Jones will also face off tomorrow in the 3-4 matchup while Johnson will challenge Shrebati.
 
Elsewhere in singles play, Iva Jankovic fell to Kallista Liu (Maryland), 6-1, 6-1 before dropping an 8-2 decision to Carly Cohen (Richmond). Kristina Georgieva won her first set of her opening match against Maitree Rout, 6-3, but was edged in the next two sets, 6-4, 11-9.

She went on to defeat Howard's Hana El Sherif, 8-6 later in the tournament.
 
In doubles play, Emperess Johnson and Mackenzie Jones dropped a pair of matches while Jankovic and Etienne teamed for a victory over Hana El Sherif and Alexandra Blackwell. After their win, the Etienne/Jankovic combination fell to Towson's Olivia Rothfield and Antonia Lawson, 6-3 in the quarterfinals.
