MEAC Announces Weekly Cross Country Honors, presented by Coca-Cola

NORFOLK, Va., Oct. 19, 2022Norfolk State sophomore Gidion Sigei was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola, the conference office announced today. Norfolk State sophomore Mercyline Kimaiyo was named Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week.
 
Sigei (So., Kericho, Kenya) bettered his MEAC-best 8K time of the season this past weekend, turning in a 23:50.2 at the Panorama Farms Invitational hosted by the University of Virginia. He finished 23rd in a field of hundreds that included regionally- and nationally-ranked programs from the ACC and SEC.
 
Kimaiyo (So., Kaptagat, Kenya) turned in the MEAC’s fastest 5K time of the season this past weekend in the Panorama Farms Invitational, bettering her own mark with an 18:05.2. She finished in the top half of a field of nearly 200 runners, including regionally- and nationally-ranked programs from the ACC and SEC.
 
Other Top Performers
Ashley Lagat (Delaware State) was ninth in the Delaware Invitational with a 6K time of 25:07.4.
 
Devin Smith (Delaware State) came in third in the Delaware Invitational, running a 27:29.8 over the 8K course.
 
Nahom Ftwi (Maryland Eastern Shore) was seventh in the Delaware Invitational, completing the 8K course in 28 minutes, 46.8 seconds.
 
Rachel Field (Morgan State) paced the Bears again at the Aubrey Shenk Invitational, running a 23:47.5 over 6K to finish 20th.
