Maryland Eastern Shore Wins Colonial Lanes Classic With Undefeated Weekend

HARAHAN, La. -- 
Maryland Eastern Shore went undefeated over three days of competition at the Colonial Lanes Classic — including a pair of bracket play victories against Top 10 teams on Sunday — and finished as the event champions.

The three-day event victory was the first for the program since The Cougar Classic on Oct. 28, 2019. Seniors Elizabeth Ross and Brooke Roberts each made the All-Tournament team, while Ross was the top individual performer.

The Hawks (11-0) opened the day with a 4-2 best-of-seven Baker win against MEAC rival and National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) No. 7 North Carolina A&T State.

Delaware State Finishes Second in Mount St. Mary's Shootout

WAYNESBORO, Pa. -- 
The Delaware State women's bowling team competed in the Mount Shootout hosted by Mount St. Mary's at Sunshine Lanes over the weekend.
 
As a team, the Hornets finished in second place with a weekend record of 8-2.
 
Individually, Delaware State was led by the individual finishes of Saralyne Nassberg, Alyssa Breidegam and Sydney Reardon.

Coppin State Finishes Third in Mount St. Mary's Shootout

WAYNESBORO, Pa. -- 
Coppin State's Kaylah Castillo finished fourth overall in the individual standings to earn All-Tournament Team honors as the Eagles finished third at the Mount St. Mary's Shootout over the weekend at Sunshine Lanes.

Coppin finished the weekend 6-4 overall with 8,736 total pins to average 174.7 per game.
 
Castillo totaled 975 pins in five traditional matches to average a 195.00 on Saturday which included a career-high 246 against Delaware State in the finale.  A fifth-year student from Orlando, Fla., Castillo also rolled a 212 in a win over Pitt.-Greensburg and a 190 against the host Mountaineers.

Castillo averaged an 18.98 per frame for the weekend, recording an 8.89 on first balls and converting on 83.3% of her spare attempts.

North Carolina A&T State Finishes Fourth in Colonial Lanes

HARAHAN, La. -- 
North Carolina A&T State began the 2022-23 bowling season with a fourth-place finish at the Colonial Classic hosted by Tulane University at Colonial Lanes. 

NCAT, ranked seventh in the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) poll, entered Sunday's bracket play as the No. 1 seed after going 4-0 in Baker format on Friday and 5-0 in traditional play on Saturday. But the Aggies were handed their first defeat of the season when 14th-ranked and fellow MEAC school Maryland Eastern Shore beat the Aggies 4-2 in a best-of-seven Baker matchup. 

Sophomore Chloe Newberry had a career day during Saturday's traditional play, totaling 1,066 pins for a five-game average of 213.20. She finished the day in third place.

Morgan State Finishes Eighth in MOTIV Penguin Classic

STRUTHERS, Ohio -- 
The Morgan State Lady Bears bowling team went 2-2 in Sunday's matches and finished in 8th place at the MOTIV Penguin Classic, hosted by Youngstown State University.
 
In the final three rounds of round robin play, Morgan State went 2-1 in traditional match play.

In traditional play, Cheyenne Washington led the Bears in scoring average with a 205.2 for five games bowled.

UAB Finishes Eighth in Colonial Lanes Classic

HARAHAN, La. -- 
The UAB Bowling team placed eighth (4-8) at the Colonial Lanes Classic hosted by Tulane this past weekend.

Friday consisted of five baker matches. The Blazers started off strong in match one after defeating the defending ITC Champions, Stephen F. Austin, 950 to 895. UAB bowled 898 in the second match of the day, but only total pinfalls were accounted for in qualifying for seeding on Sunday. To close out the day, the Blazers fell short against Alabama State (905-738), Texas Southern (903-894) and Sam Houston (896-992).

Individually, two Blazers finished in the top 20 – Jamie Krasnigor (8th) and Keagan Trexler (15th). Krasnigor led the way with an average 205.20 and three games over 200. Trexler averaged 195.60 and also recorded three games over 200.
