BALTIMORE – The duo of Vansh Kapoor and Rishi Jalota took third overall at the Greyhounds Classic, hosted by Loyola University at the McClure Tennis Center at Ridey Athletic Complex this weekend. Additionally, Anas Haddou and Luka Markovic paired to win the consolation bracket.
Kapoor and Jalota dominated Rider's Dykema/Fuentes in the first round with a 6-3 win in doubles play. Kapoor also downed Dykema, 6-0, 6-1 in singles while Jalota blanked Fuentes in both sets.
In the quarterfinals, Kapoor and Jalota took down Grimes/Lachmanen, also from Rider, 7-6 (5) in doubles action. Kapoor defeated Grimes, 7-6 (5), 6-3 in singles action while Jalota was also victorious, 5-7, 6-3, 10-5 to advance to the semifinals.
After falling to the eventual champion, Howard's pair of Cadeau/Dawson in the semifinals, Kapoor and Jalota defeated another Rider pairing of Ghitti/Ganeshan in the third-place match. Coppin won, 6-2 in doubles while Jalota bested Ganeshan, 6-2, 6-2. Kapoor dropped the opening set, 7-6 in a tiebreaker and trailed in the second.
Despite falling in the opening round to Howard's Dunac/Westbrook, Haddou and Markovic went on to defeat three duos from Loyola to win the consolation bracket.
Haddou and Markovic both won in singles play over Bulger/Koziol in the quarterfinals before sweeping the doubles and both singles matches against LaLonde/Rotundo in the semifinals.
In the championship, Coppin defeated Loyola's Girandola/Lawliss, 6-4 before Haddou bested Girandola, 6-3, 6-4 in singles action. Markovic won the opening set over Lawliss, 6-3 and led, 5-0 in the second when the Eagles clinched the win.
