MEAC Announces Weekly Cross Country Honors, presented by Coca-Cola

NORFOLK, Va., Oct. 12, 2022Delaware State sophomore Devin Smith was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola, the conference office announced today. North Carolina Central sophomore Victoria Swepson was named Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week.
 
Smith (So., Waldorf, Md.) won individual gold for the second time this season on Friday, posting the top 8K time in the DSU Farm Run at the Delaware State Outreach & Research Center. He posted a 26:59.1, finishing 19 seconds faster than the second-place runner, and his time is ninth-fastest in the MEAC this season.
 
Swepson (So., Durham, N.C.) posted the fastest 5K time of the weekend among MEAC runners, turning in a 19:19.0 and finishing 78th in a field of more than 250 runners at the Royals XC Challenge in Charlotte, N.C. She was the only runner to break the 20-second mark over the weekend.
 
Other Top Performers
Amadou Ba (Coppin State) ran a 29:16.9 at the DSU Farm Run to finish seventh.
 
Jahmel Wyatt (Coppin State) ran a 21:23.5 to finish fifth at the DSU Farm Run.
 
Ashley Lagat (Delaware State) ran a 20:11.6 to take gold in the women’s 5K at the DSU Farm Run.
 
Rachel Field (Morgan State) came in second in the DSU Farm Run, completing the 5K course in 20:24.8.
 
Davian Gray (Morgan State) was fourth in the DSU Farm Run, turning in a 28:34.7.
 
Emmanuel Paddyfote (North Carolina Central) posted the 10th-fastest 8K time in the MEAC this season with a 27:03.0 in the Royals XC Challenge.
