DOVER, Del., Jan. 4, 2022 -- The impact of COVID-19 on sports competitions has prompted changes to the 2021-22 Delaware State women's and men's basketball schedules.
The Delaware State / Howard doubleheader originally scheduled for this Saturday in Dover, Del., has been moved to Monday, Feb. 7. The women's game is scheduled for 5:30 p.m., followed by the men's contest at 7:30 p.m. in Delaware State's Memorial Hall.
The Hornets' doubleheader against Maryland Eastern Shore originally set for Saturday, Jan. 15 has been rescheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 9 in Dover. The women will play first, starting at 5:30 p.m. in Memorial Hall. The men's game is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.
As a result of the schedule changes, Delaware State's first MEAC home doubleheader of the 2021-22 season is now scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 22 vs. North Carolina Central. Under COVID-19 policies announced by the university last month, spectators will not be permitted to attend the Jan. 22 Delaware State / North Carolina Central doubleheader in Memorial Hall. Only team personnel, game officials, and selected working university staff members will be admitted into facility.
The Jan. 22 spectator policy is based on continuing guidance from the Centers for Disease Control, recommendations from its resident health experts and partners from Testing for America. Similar measures are being implemented around the country.
Spectators will again be allowed to attend university sporting events beginning with the Monday, Jan. 24 basketball doubleheader against South Carolina State, in addition to the rescheduled Feb. 7 (vs. Howard) and Feb. 9 (vs. Maryland Eastern Shore) doubleheaders.
Also, Delaware State has announced that it's basketball doubleheader originally set for on Jan. 10 at Norfolk State has been rescheduled. The Hornet men will now visit to Norfolk, Va., to take on the Spartans on Wednesday, Jan. 12. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Echols Hall on the Norfolk State campus.
The Hornet women will visit Norfolk State on Feb. 5 at 4 p.m.
When spectators are allowed to return to the university's sports venues, all will be required to upload the following documents online no later than 24 hours prior to attending the games: proof of full COVID-vaccinated status or a negative COVID PCR test result administered within five days of the competition. Also, all spectators will be required to wear masks at all times.
Failure to comply could result in removal from the facility.
Upload instructions will be posted on the university (DESU.edu), athletics (DSUHornets.com) and ticketing (DSUHornetsTickets.com) webpages, along with Hornet social media sites, in the coming days.
