BALTIMORE, Md. -- 
Coppin State's Aliyah Lawson and Jaia Alexander combined for 40 points as the Eagles defeated Maryland Eastern Shore 86-57 on Saturday afternoon at PEC Arena.

With the win, Coppin improved to 9-9 overall and 3-2 in the MEAC, while the Hawks fell to 5-11 and 1-3 in league play.
 
Lawson led all scorers with 22 points as she made 8-of-15 from the floor, including five 3-pointers. The Whitby, Ontario, native also had five rebounds, four assists and three steals and passed Genesis Lucas for second on the program's all-time list with 129 3-pointers.
 
Alexander notched her third double-double of the season with 18 points and 10 rebounds, making 7-of-13 from the field. 
 
Freshman Cortney Gardner went for a season-high 11 points and Mossi Staples also hit double figures with 10 points.

DURHAM, N.C. -- 
The Howard University women's basketball team defeated the North Carolina Central Lady Eagles 66-55 Saturday afternoon at McDougald-McLendon Arena.

Anzhane' Hutton paced the Bison, scoring a team-high 19 points and 12 rebounds for her third double-double of the season. Destiny Howell joined Hutton in double figures, recording 11 points.

The Bison shot 41 percent from the floor (24-of-59).

Norfolk State 60, South Carolina State 40

ORANGEBURG, S.C. -- 
A dominant second half sparked Norfolk State to its fourth straight win, 60-40 over South Carolina State on Saturday, giving the Spartans sole possession of first place in the MEAC.
 
The Spartans (8-7, 4-0 MEAC) outscored the Lady Bulldogs (3-15, 3-1 MEAC) by 21 in the final two quarters to hand S.C. State its first loss in conference play. Deja Francis paced Norfolk State with a performance that stuffed all aspects of the stat sheet, finishing with 21 points, seven rebounds, five assists and five steals.

Janay Turner had a breakthrough day of sorts, posting career highs in points (14), minutes (23), 3-point field goals made (4), and field goals made (4).
