Moore, Venning Lead Morgan State Past S.C. State 88-81 in OT

ORANGEBURG, S.C., Jan. 10, 2022 — Senior guard Trevor Moore had a season-high 19 points as Morgan State defeated South Carolina State 88-81 in overtime on Monday night at the Smith-Hamilton-Middleton Memorial Center. 

It was the Bears' first overtime victory since defeating Beltway rival Howard (89-86) on January 15, 2019 in Washington, D.C. 

Junior guard De'Torrion Ware made a game-tying 3-pointer in the final seconds of regulation to force overtime. The Bears, who posted their first road win of the season, made a season-high 15 3-pointers.
 
Sophomore forward Chad Venning added a career-high 17 points on 7 of 9 shooting and Ware finished with 15 for Morgan (6-7, 1-0 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference). Ware posted a seaon-high 11 rebounds, Venning had nine rebounds, and junior guard Keith McGee scored 14 points.
 
Omer Croskey had 19 points for the Bulldogs (7-10, 0-2), who lost 74-65 versus Coppin State on Saturday. Jemel Davis added 18 points, and Antonio TJ Madlock had 13 points, eight rebounds and six assists.

Morgan led 40-30 at halftime and have improved to 6-0 when leading at intermission. 

Morgan finished the game shooting 49.2 percent from the field and converted 13 of 17 free throws (76.5%) on the night. The Bulldogs shot 37 percent (30-81) from the field and was just 6 of 24 from beyond the arc.

SCSU won the rebounding battle 47-39, with 21 offensive boards and outscored the Bears in the paint by a 44-26 margin.

The Bears don't play again until Jan. 15 when they welcome cross-town rival Coppin State to Hill Field House. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m.
