NORFOLK, Va., Sept. 6, 2021—Coppin State senior Miajavon Coleman and Norfolk State junior Shonte Seale were selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Volleyball Co-Players of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola, the conference office announced today. Norfolk State’s Caris Cross was named Rookie of the Week, while Coppin State junior Andrea Tsvetanova earned Setter of the Week honors and Delaware State junior Sydney Lewis was named Defensive Player of the Week.
Coleman (5-10, Sr., OH, San Antonio, Texas) was one dig shy of recoding double-doubles in all three matches as Coppin State went 2-1 this past weekend, recording wins over Canisius and Bucknell. After recording 14 kills and 12 digs against Canisius, Coleman had a season-high 19 kills and nine digs against Bucknell. She wrapped up the weekend with a 15-kill, 10-dig performance against tournament host Penn.
Seale (5-10, Jr., OH, Bridgetown, Barbados) opened the season with 24 kills, 14 digs and a .262 hitting percentage in a five-set thriller against Hampton, tying the program mark for third-most kills in a single match. She followed that up with 10 kills and five digs against North Carolina A&T State and an 11-kill, 20-dig, three-block effort against UNC Greensboro. Seale, who averaged 3.75 kills and 3.25 digs per set, was named to the Spartan/Aggie All-Tournament Team.
Cross (5-11, Fr., S, Lambertville, Mich.) averaged 8.27 assists per set in four matches this past week, to go along with 1.67 digs per set. She opened the season with 42 assists, seven digs, three block assists and two service aces against Hampton before racking up 33 more assists, nine more digs and two more blocks against UNC Greensboro. In a straight-set win over American, Cross had 31 assists and seven digs, while also assisting on three blocks.
Tsvetanova (5-9, Jr., S, Sofia, Bulgaria) was named All-Tournament after recording double-doubles in each of the Eagles’ three matches this past weekend. She had 15 assists and 15 digs in split duty against Canisius, and against Bucknell, she racked up 37 assists and 12 digs. She also had a season-high 42 assists and 14 digs against tournament host Penn – a match in which she also racked up five blocks.
Lewis (6-1, Jr., MB, Bowie, Md.) totaled 18 blocks in three matches this past weekend, helping the Hornets win matches against Georgetown and Saint Peter’s. She opened the weekend with seven blocks in the Hornets’ five-set win over the Hoyas, and she racked up a season-high nine blocks against Saint Francis – before ending the weekend with a pair of stops at the net against Saint Peter’s.
Other Top Performers
Jordan Celestine (Coppin State) had a hand in seven blocks in a win over Bucknell, before racking up a career-high eight blocks against Penn.
Ahzhi Coleman (Coppin State) had 10 kills and three blocks against Penn.
Adriana Rodriguez (Delaware State) recorded 11 kills and three blocks against Saint Francis.
Kayla Diaz (Howard) had 27 assists and 11 digs against College of Charleston, then turned in a season-high 37 assists against Miami (Ohio).
Cimone Woodard (Howard) had 10 kills and seven blocks against Duke, before adding 12 kills against Miami (Ohio).
Kendal Hoges (Morgan State) recorded at least four blocks in the three matches in which she played this past weekend.
Jalynn Robinson (Morgan State) had 20 assists and 11 digs against Fordham and was named to the Delaware Invitational All-Tournament Team.
Nicole Rodriguez (Norfolk State) recorded 24 digs against Hampton and 22 against UNC Greensboro.
Lauren Janok (North Carolina Central) was named to the Campbell Invitational All-Tournament Team after recording three double-doubles in four matches.
Alyssa Pieh (North Carolina Central) had 17 digs against James Madison and 16 against North Carolina A&T State.
Ammaarah Williams (North Carolina Central) racked up 12 kills and hit .800 in a win over Alabama State.
