PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- 
Three Coppin State players notched double-doubles as the Eagles defeated Canisius, 3-1 (25-23, 22-25, 25-20, 27-25) at The Palestra on Friday afternoon at Penn's Sheraton University City Volleyball Invitational.

The Eagles evened their record at 2-2 overall, while the Griffins fell to 0-4.
 
Miajavon Coleman recorded her fourth double-double in as many matches, as she tallied 14 kills and 12 digs along with three blocks. Libero Ashley Roman recorded her first career double-double, matching a season-high with 23 digs along with a career-high 10 assists. Setter Andrea Tsvetanova was credited with 15 assists and 15 digs while splitting time with Kareeman Hopkins (11 assists).
 
Coppin had a well-balanced offensive attack, as Sydney Hicks finished with 10 kills, followed by Paola Caten with seven and Ahzhi Coleman with six. Coleman did not record an error to hit .375, while she led the Eagles with five blocks.

Caten also tallied 12 digs and a pair of blocks.

Delaware State 3, Georgetown 2

LORETTO, Pa. --
Valeria Otero notches 16 kills and tied a match high with 22 digs on Friday as Delaware State came back and defeated Georgetown 3-2 (19-25, 18-25, 25-21, 25-18, 15-11) to give the Hornets a 4-0 start to the season.

Otero and Kristi Gomez led the way defensively with 22 digs apiece.

Joining Otero with double-digit kills in the match were reigning MEAC Player of the Week Alondra Maldonado with 12 and Mayah Ngundam with 10. Jelena Dukic quarterbacked the Hornets offense, which hit .234, to the tune of 30 assists.

Jasmal Cruz added 16 digs.

North Carolina Central 3, Alabama A&M 0

BUIES CREEK, N.C. -- 
Senior middle blocker/outside hitter Ammaarah Williams ripped a match-high 12 kills on just 15 attempts for a scorching .800 hitting percentage to pace North Carolina Central to a 3-0 non-conference victory over Alabama State Friday afternoon at the Fairfield Inn & Suites Dunn Campbell Invitational.
 
The Eagles hit .398 as a team on the way to winning 25-14, 25-23, 25-13. NCCU leveled its record at 1-1, while the Hornets remained winless on the season at 0-5.
 
Williams, a Preseason All-MEAC selection, added four block assists and one ace to her dozen kills for 15.5 points.
 
Seniors Arlanda Faulkner and Celene Morris helped NCCU coast to the neutral-site triumph with nine and eight kills, respectively, as they both converted on over 40-percent of their attempts. Faulkner hit .400 and Morris logged a .412 mark on her career-high eight kills.
