Howard Volleyball Hangs Tough Against No. 13 Oregon

WASHINGTON, D.C., Sept.16, 2021 –
The Howard University women's volleyball team dropped a tough three-set bout to No. 13 Oregon (21-25, 24-26, 22-25) inside Burr Gymnasium.
 
With the setback, Howard fell to 3-7, while the Ducks moved to 7-1 on the season.
 
Junior Tamar Wells (Apopka, Fla.) and freshmen Bria Woodard (Missouri City, Texas) and Cimone Woodard (Missouri City, Texas) led the way with seven kills apiece.
 
After dropping game one 21-25, the Bison held an eight-point advantage midway through the the set, 15-7, but the Ducks stormed back and went on a 15-4 run late, 19-22.
 
HU rallied and tied the match at 24 after Woodard's kill, but a service error and service ace from Oregon's Elise Ferreira would give the Ducks a 2-0 match lead.
 
Both squads were deadlocked at 14 until the Bison went on a 4-1 spurt to take the lead midway through the third set, 18-14. Oregon battled back with a 9-1 run to reclaim the advantage and win the match.
 
Senior Milexa Cardona (Kissimmee, Fla.) produced 25 assists and six digs while junior Essence Bell (Ocala, Fla.) racked up 17 digs in the loss.
 
For Oregon, Taylor Borup had a match-high 11 kills in the win.
 
On Friday, the Bison will play host to Harvard inside Burr Gymnasium. Match time is slated for 7 p.m.
