DURHAM, N.C. — Head coach Cat Tarvin has announced the appointment of Jaimie Hoover, who just finished her collegiate playing career at the University of Florida, to assistant coach for the North Carolina Central softball program and NCCU four-year letterwinner Kaitlyn Macon to student assistant coach.
"I am so elated about the new additions to the NCCU softball coaching staff," Tarvin said.
Hoover just served as a team captain for a Gators softball team that advanced to the NCAA Super Regional and finished the 2021 season ranked in the top-10 of all four major polls.
"For almost a decade, I have watched Jaimie develop into a Power 5 starter," Tarvin said. "I had the privilege of coaching her as she prepared for her career at University of Florida. Her expertise and overall intensity towards the game is exactly what the team needs in an assistant coach."
Hoover was a multiple-time Southeastern Conference (SEC) Academic Honor Roll award winner. She garnered Dean's List accolades at Florida and was a co-creator of the Black Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
The outfielder from Suwanee, Georgia, played in over 200 games for the Gators, finishing with a .382 career on-base percentage. Hoover had 37 career extra-base hits while producing 96 RBI, 90 runs and 16 stolen bases. She ranks in the top-10 of UF career records with seven triples.
Hoover graduated from Florida with a Bachelor of Science degree in African American studies.
Macon played in 92 games over her four seasons with the Eagles. She posted a career .263 on-base percentage with totals of 15 runs, 14 RBI and three stolen bases as a utility catcher and infielder.
The Harrisburg, N.C., resident was awarded the Debra Saunders-White Leadership Award as a senior. Macon also earned MEAC All-Academic Team status in her undergraduate career with the Eagles.
Macon will serve as a student assistant while she finishes up her behavioral and social sciences degree at NCCU.
"After coaching both Coach Hoover and Coach Macon, their combined passion for the game will continue to keep the team motivated," Tarvin said. "I expect great things from both coaches."
