NORFOLK, Va., Sept. 13, 2021—Delaware State sophomore Alondra Maldonado was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Volleyball Player of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola, the conference office announced today. Morgan State’s Madison Grace was named Rookie of the Week, while Coppin State junior Andrea Tsvetanova earned Setter of the Week honors and Coppin State junior Ashley Roman was named Defensive Player of the Week.
Maldonado (6-1, So., MB, Patillas, Puerto RIco) was named MVP of the Crown Plaza – Desmond Invitational this past weekend after hitting .333 for the week and helping the Hornets extend their winning streak to six matches. Maldonado had double-digit kills in four of five matches, including 11 each against Manhattan and Saint Francis, and she was a force at the net – racking up eight total blocks against Saint Francis and four against Siena.
Grace (5-10, Fr., OH, Clinton Township, Mich.) averaged 4.7 kills per set this past weekend, including 25 kills and just three errors for a .500 hitting percentage in a win over George Mason -- and 25 more kills against Marist. She added 16 kills in the match against Robert Morris and hit .380 for the week, including a .412 effort against Marist.
Tsvetanova (5-9, Jr., S, Sofia, Bulgaria) averaged 9.47 assists per set in four matches this past week, beginning with a double-double (29 assists, 10 digs) against George Washington. She had 41 assists and eight digs against George Mason and 40 assists and eight digs against Robert Morris. Tsvetanova also had 32 assists against UNC Greensboro, and she also notched at least two service aces in each match.
Roman (5-5, Jr., L, Isabela, Puerto Rico) averaged 4.93 digs per set this past week, including 20-dig efforts against both Robert Morris and UNC Greensboro. She also had 18 digs against George Washington and 16 digs against George Mason, in the process becoming the fourth player in program history to cross the 1,000-dig mark for her career.

Paola Caten (Coppin State) was named to the George Mason All-Tournament Team, and had 18 kills and 16 digs against Robert Morris.
Ahzhi Coleman (Coppin State) had seven kills against Robert Morris.
Jasmal Cruz (Delaware State) was named All-Tournament over the weekend and averaged 4-67 digs per set for the week -- racking up 19 digs each against Siena and Central Connecticut State.
Milexa Cordona (Howard) had 37 assists and 10 digs against Quinnipiac.
Ana Williams (Howard) had a career-high nine blocks against Quinnipiac.
Bria Woodard (Howard) racked up 14 kills and 20 digs against Quinnipiac, to go along with two service aces.
Derionah Abner (Maryland Eastern Shore) racked up 20 kills against George Washington.
Mauri Carver (Maryland Eastern Shore) had 17 kills and 11 blocks against George Washington.
Jadore Hayes (Morgan State) had 22 digs against Robert Morris, 18 against Marist and 17 against George Mason.
Gabriela Hiciano (Morgan State) had 13 kills and 15 digs against Marist and 12 kills against George Mason.
Mackenzie Jefferson (Morgan State) had 52 assists and 10 digs against Marist and 45 assists against George Mason.
Caris Cross (Norfolk State) had 42 assists and seven digs against Temple.
Nicole Rodriguez (Norfolk State) racked up 21 digs against Temple.
Shonte Seale (Norfolk State) hit .414 against Temple with 15 kills, and also had 12 kills and 10 digs against Florida Atlantic.
Lauren Janok (North Carolina Central) recorded the first triple-double in program history against UNC Greensboro, racking up 33 assists, 15 digs and 10 kills.
