Men's Cross Country

2021 MEAC Cross Country Season Begins This Weekend

This weekend, five of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference's (MEAC) eight cross country programs will be in action for the first time in nearly two years.

Friday will see Howard University take part in the Mount St. Mary's 5K Duals, while North Carolina Central is scheduled to run in the Elon Opener. Coppin State and Morgan State will run in the Towson Invitational on Saturday, with South Carolina State running in the Buccaneer Invitational.

Delaware State, Maryland Eastern Shore and Norfolk State are set to open their seasons the following weekend.

Norfolk State is the defending MEAC champion on both the men's and women's side, having swept both titles back in 2019 in Smyrna, Del. The Spartans' Meshack Kipchirchir won the men's individual title that year, while on the women's side, Norfolk State's Martha Bissah won the individual crown for the third straight year.

Bissah was the first woman in MEAC history to accomplish that feat.

The 2020 championships were canceled after the MEAC had moved fall sports to the sping 2021 season, which would've placed cross country in the overlap between the indoor and outdoor track & field seasons.

The 2021 MEAC Cross Country Chamionships are set for Saturday, Oct. 30 in Cary, N.C., with North Carolina Central serving as host.
