Men's Basketball 8/10/2021 2:05:00 PM Morgan State's Stanley Davis Jr. Signs with Surrey Scorchers Courtesy of Morgan State Athletic Communications BALTIMORE, Md. (August 10, 2021) -- Former Morgan State men's basketball guard Stanley Davis Jr. continues to experience success overseas and has recently signed a deal with the Surrey Scorchers. Surrey is based out of the United Kingdom and competes in the British Basketball League. The 22-year old most recently spent a season with Vllaznia Shkodra in the Albanian Basketball Superleague. Davis was a driving force in pushing his Albanian side to a semi final playoff game averaging 18.5 points and shooting an impressive 43% from behind the arc across the season. "I'm feeling good with signing with the Scorchers," said Davis. "I feel as though it is a great opportunity to play under Coach Raftopoulos, I believe he's very knowledgeable and understanding. "I can't wait to help the team grow and achieve great things. I'm ready to get to work and get the ball rolling. With this experience I'm hoping to learn, grow and show the UK what Stanley Davis Jr. can do. Simple." A native of Chester, Pa., Davis played all four years for the Bears and finished his collegiate career ranked No. 24 on the school's all-time scoring leaderboard with 1,044 points and ranks 15th on the all-time rebounding list. He's just the 13th player in school history to have over 1,000 points and over 500 rebounds. In his final season, he was a 2020 All-MEAC Third Team selection and ranked among the league leaders in a number of statistical categories: No. 8 in rebounding (6.0), No. 9 in scoring (13.7), No. 12 in assists (2.5), No. 6 in free throw percentage (.784) and No. 13 in field goal percentage (.465). "Stanley comes in quite different to all our past point guards," said Scorchers head coach Creon Raftopolous. "He's a player who likes to pressure the ball from 40ft and leads on defense, an area that is a key focus for us this season." "He is super athletic and uses this to his advantage against smaller guards. I'm sure Stanley will take no time becoming a fan favorite and I'm excited to have him on our roster." Davis spoke about his motivation entering the season with his new team. "The thing I'm most excited about with my new home is that my hard work is paying off and I am ready to show THE WORLD what Stanley Davis Jr. can do." "My career is reaching new levels and it's doing nothing but motivating me more and more to be better than I was the day before. It's the grinder in me that's wanting better for myself and family."
