DURHAM, N.C. — The North Carolina Central men's and women's tennis teams will celebrate the public opening of its tennis courts for the new academic and athletic year with a Tennis Carnival co-hosted by the Durham-Orange Community Tennis Association (DOCTA) on Sunday, Aug. 1.
The free event is open to juniors and adults and will take place at the NCCU Tennis Courts on Sunday between 4-6 p.m.
The carnival will feature games, prizes and fun for all. The two-hour event falls in line with NCCU men's and women's tennis teams' commitment to the USTA Collegiate Community Hub Initiative, which helps use university tennis venues as an asset to connect to the community.
"The United States Tennis Association recently launched the USTA Collegiate Community Hub Initiative and with Sunday's grand opening to the public, NCCU will be the first HBCU to formally participate in this national program," NCCU head coach D. Curtis Lawson said. "This initiative is a great opportunity to build and sustain community relations and we take great pride in keeping NCCU at the forefront of innovative projects like the Collegiate Community Hub."
DOCTA has been a longstanding supporter of the NCCU tennis programs. The DOCTA has a mission to promote and encourage diverse and inclusive tennis participation, programming and leadership involvement in Durham and Orange Counties.
