Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Commissioner Dr. Dennis E. Thomas was a standout offensive lineman for Alcorn State University in the early 1970s, earning Pittsburgh Courier All-America honors and winning the conference championship his freshman season.

Not only did Thomas parlay a successful playing career into a lengthy and distinguishes athletics administration career -- one that saw him serve as assistant coach, head coach, athletics director and now conference commissioner -- he was such a standout that he made SWAC history.

Beating out one of football's legends in the process.

Watch as HBCU Gameday talks with Thomas about being the first -- and only -- offensive lineman to be named SWAC Offensive Player of the Year.
