GREENSBORO, N.C. – North Carolina A&T State senior Edie Brewer has received recognition on the court as being named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Year the last two seasons.
But last week, Brewer received academic recognition.
The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) named Brewer Academic All-District for District 3. Brewer, who is majoring in history and has a 3.83 GPA, was the only MEAC student-athlete recognized.
District 3 consists of nine volleyball players from the states of North Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. CoSIDA selected 69 players to the eight district teams in Division I.
The Academic All-District honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot. The first, second and third-team honorees will be announced in early July.
Over the last two seasons, Brewer has secured many honors, including American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-American honorable mention south region. This past spring, AVCA named Brewer honorable mention All-American.
In her career, Brewer ranks in the top-10 in several categories in program history. Brewer ranks second in school history with 2,171 career assists, sixth with 155 block assists, eighth with 783 digs, fifth with 135 service aces and 10th with 709 kills. She also has nine career triple-doubles along with 29 double-doubles.
Brewer helped the Aggies win their first MEAC championship back in April with a 3-1 win over Coppin State. She was named the tournament's Outstanding Performer, and she also landed on the all-tournament team for the second consecutive season.
The win guaranteed N.C. A&T its first trip to the NCAA Tournament, where the Aggies advanced to the second round against Penn State after Rice forfeited because of COVID issues.
