NORFOLK, Va., May 4, 2021–Morgan State sophomore Deborah Hamilton has been named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Softball Player of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola, it was announced on Tuesday. Meanwhile,
North Carolina Central senior Kiara Hurley and
freshman Hailey Batista are the Pitcher of the Week and Rookie of the Week, respectively.
Hamilton (OF, 5-6, So., Killeen, Texas) helped lead Morgan State to a 4-0 week, batting .714 with two triples, three runs batted in and three runs scored. She also had two stolen bases and tied for the team lead with nine total bases.
Hurley (P, 5-5, Sr., Maumee, Ohio) went 3-0 during the week to go along with one save. She allowed just two runs in four games, one of which was earned, en route to a 0.31 earned run average. Additionally, she struck out nine batters.
Batista (C, 5-5, Fr., Mebane, N.C.) posted a .357 batting average, a .389 on-base percentage and a .857 slugging percentage in the Eagles’ four-game sweep over South Carolina State. The rookie had three triples, one double, five RBIs and five runs scored against the Bulldogs.

Kiana Carr (Howard) went 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA and 16 strikeouts against Coppin State.
Camille Navarro (Howard) batted .461 with two home runs, a triple and seven RBIs as the Bison went 3-1 against Coppin State.
Kayla Bates (Morgan State) batted 1.000 in a pair of non-conference victories over Bowie State with five RBIs and four runs scored.
Melissa Paz (Morgan State) recorded a 2-0 record in relief for the week, finishing with an ERA of 0.00 after surrendering no runs on four hits and two walks along with seven strikeouts.
Haliee Cutts (North Carolina A&T State) batted .750 along with an .833 on-base percentage as the Aggies went 1-2 in non-conference games during the week.
S’Nyiah Stinson (North Carolina A&T State) went 1-1 with an ERA of 3.23 in two non-conference games.
Joirea Dumas (North Carolina Central) batted .250 and drove in a team-high six runs to lead the Eagles to a series sweep at South Carolina State.
