LOUISVILLE, K. -- Howard University MEAC Pitcher of the Year Kiana Carr, MEAC Player of the Year second baseman Camille Navarro, and third baseman Natalie Davila was named 2021 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division I All-Mid-Atlantic Region team.

380 student-athletes from 154 programs have received 2021 NFCA Division I All-Region accolades.

NFCA DIVISION ALL-REGION TEAMS

The awards honor softball student-athletes from the Association's 10 regions with first, second and third-team selections. NFCA member head coaches from each respective region voted on the teams, and all student-athletes now become eligible for the 2021 NFCA Division I All-America squads.

The Bison three selections are the most in program history. Only one Bison has been named to the NFCA All-Region Team. Howard University was the only HBCU to have its student-athletes recognized.

Navarro's second-team selection marks the first time since 2008 when Outfielder Courtney Young was selected to the Southeast Region's second team.

Navarro, a Los Angeles, Calif. native who is in just her second full season with the Bison, finished the regular season in the top five in several categories. She led the MEAC in batting average (.421), slugging percentage (.664), hits (45), and doubles (10). She was also second in on-base percentage (.452), tied for second in runs scored (22), second in total bases (71), third in stolen bases (14), and tied for fourth in home runs with four. Navarro finished ranked 17th in the NCAA as the toughest to strike out, 39th in doubles, and 52nd in batting average. She recorded her 100th hit on March 10 against Towson. Navarro is the first Bison to be selected as MEAC Player of the Year since Courtney Young won the award in 2008.

NFCA named Carr and Davila to the third team.

Carr, a graduate transfer for the Bison from Phoenix, Ariz., led the MEAC in strikeouts (123), batters struck out looking (33), wins (11), and tied for first in saves (2). She finished the season ranked second in appearances (22) and third in opposing teams batting average (.220), innings pitched (110.1), and games finished (10). She struck out a Howard record 12 batters on two different occasions, first on April 18 against North Carolina A&T State and then on April 26 against Coppin State. Carr was named MEAC Pitcher of the Week three times during the season. Carr finished the season recording a Howard record six straight wins en route to taking home the 2021 MEAC Pitcher of the Year.

Davila, a Carson, Calif. native .364 batting average ranked third in the MEAC. Davila ranked second and led the Bison with 25 RBIs. She was named Player of the Week after compiling a .667 batting average while going 4-for-6 as the Bison collected a pair of victories over Bowie State. She belted a grand slam in the fourth inning of the 10-0 win. Davila started in all-30 games for the Bison, spending time at first and third, recording a .959 batting average and a team-high eight double-plays
