PONTE VERDA BEACH, Fla. — The North Carolina Central University men's golf team tees off for the opening of the 2021 PGA WORKS Collegiate Championship on Monday, May 3, at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida.
The PGA WORKS Collegiate Championship is an annual event that hosts student-athletes enrolled in historically Black colleges and universities, Hispanic-serving institutions, and other minority-serving educational institutions from Division I, Division II, and PGA of America's PGA golf management university programs.
The five golfers representing NCCU at this year's event are sophomore Daniel Barbare (Raleigh, N.C.), freshman Trey Morse (New Orleans, La.), junior Travis Jackson (Laurinburg, N.C.), freshman Kendall Wallace (Blythewood, S.C.), and junior Hogan Lang (Lockport, N.Y.).
Barbare enters the event with a team-best scoring average of 76.0, including a career-low round of 70 during the HBCU Invitational. Second in scoring average for the Eagles is Morse, who is currently averaging 81.0, followed closely by Lang at (81.6) and Wallace (82.0).
Other notable teams that will be taking part in this year's event are 2021 MEAC champions Florida A&M University and Howard University, making its PGA WORKS Collegiate Championship debut.
