North Carolina Central Eliminates Rival North Carolina A&T State

NORFOLK, Va., May 14, 2021—
North Carolina Central remained alive in the 2021 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Softball Championship on Friday at NSU Softball Field, eliminating rival North Carolina A&T State 6-3.
 
The Eagles will face Norfolk State at 6 p.m. for a spot in the championship game against Morgan State.
 
North Carolina A&T State saw its season end at 11-31.
 
Joirea Dumas scored the first run of the game in the first; after doubling to lead off the inning, she advanced to third and later scored when Olivia Daniel reached on an error.
 
The Aggies briefly took a 2-1 lead in the fourth on an RBI double from Stephanie Williams and an RBI single from Hailee Cutts, but NCCU answered in the bottom of the frame. Maegan Garrison got things started with a solo home run to center, tying the game at 2-2.
 
Imani Harrell followed with a double and later scored on an error, and Hailey Batista later drove in a run with a double of her own to give the Eagles a 4-2 lead.
 
Two more runs followed in the fifth, first on a solo homer from Jaylah Barr and later a Garrison double and error that allowed K’Lea Parks to score.
 
Samantha Ramirez homered in the seventh for the Aggies.
 
Garrison was 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the Eagles, while Kiara Hurley struck out four in going the distance to pick up her eighth win of the season.
