NORFOLK, Va., May 13, 2021 – Haylee Bobos went 2-for-3 with two home runs and three RBIs to lead Morgan State to a 4-3 win over North Carolina Central on Thursday in game two of the 2021 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Softball Championship at the NSU Softball Field.
The Bears (22-15), the top seed from the Northern Division, will take on Norfolk State in the next round on Friday at 12 p.m. The Eagles fall into the elimination bracket, where they will face North Carolina A&T State at 3 p.m.
Morgan State (22-15) scored two runs in the bottom half of the first inning off a two-run homer from Bobos to right-center that gave the Bears the early 2-0 lead.
North Carolina Central (11-30) got on the board in the third when Hailey Batista scored Tamiera Sanchez on a sacrifice fly to left-center.
The Bears added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning on back-to-back home runs by Bobos and Melissa Paz.
NCCU scored two runs in the top half of the seventh, cutting it to a one-run game on a two-run double from Batista that scored Nadia Blevins and Tamiera Sanchez, but the Eagles would fall short on the comeback.
Bobos now has four homers on the season, while Paz hit her first on Thursday.
Stephanie Rundlett (10-7) picked up the win, striking out five batters and allowing just one earned run.
