FAMU Men’s Golf Receives Proclamation from Tallahassee Mayor Dailey

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- The Florida A&M men’s golf team received a special proclamation from Tallahassee Mayor John Dailey and the City of Tallahassee Commission on Wednesday after the program captured its first-ever Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) golf championship.

“I’m really proud and honored to have you here,” Dailey said. “What you all have accomplished has been absolutely amazing. You not only represent yourselves well, the team, the school, but our community really well.”

Florida A&M won the MEAC golf championship by 19 strokes as Ethan Mangum was the individual medalist and won Outstanding Performer honors. Last week, the Rattlers wrapped up the regular season with a third-place finish at the PGA Works Collegiate Invitational hosted by TPC Sawgrass.

“Not only are these young men five-star student-athletes, they’re five-stars in life,” FAMU Vice President and Director of Athletics Kortne Gosha said. “Every one of these young men has a degree in their hand. We are extremely proud of these young men and their accomplishments.”

FAMU head coach Mike Rice, who won the MEAC Outstanding Coach honor at the tournament, said this moment, the team winning the championship, was five years in the making.

“We had a really good year before the pandemic and we were looking at hopefully winning the MEAC back then, and it didn’t happen,” Rice said. “Fortunately, we were given the opportunity this year and these guys have worked very hard to get to where we are today.”

The Rattlers won two tournaments during the season and will make their first-ever appearance in the NCAA Division I Regional next week at the Seminole Legacy Golf Club on the campus of Florida State University.

FAMU will open the Tallahassee Regional as the 13th seed as tournament play will begin on Monday.
