TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- On Wednesday, May 12, the Florida A&M golf team will be recognized by Tallahassee Mayor John Dailey and the City of Tallahassee Commission for their outstanding hard work and achievements during the 2020-21 season.
"We're honored to be recognized for being the school's first MEAC golf championship team," FAMU head golf coach Mike Rice said. "Our guys worked so hard to get to this point and we're tremendously grateful to be recognized by the great city of Tallahassee."
While navigating a global pandemic, FAMU golf earned two tournament victories, including capturing its first Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference championship and NCAA Regional appearance in school history.
In the 2021 MEAC Golf Championships, the Rattlers dominated the field, winning the tournament by a remarkable 19 strokes and claiming a spot in the next week's NCAA Regional. Ethan Mangum won the individual title, while Rice was named the MEAC's Most Outstanding Coach.
"We are excited about the trajectory of our program under head coach Mike Rice and equally honored that Mayor Dailey, and our city officials, are recognizing these extremely talented young men and this transformational moment in our program," FAMU Vice President and Director of Athletics Kortne Gosha said.
On May 17-19, FAMU will participate in the Tallahassee Regional at the Seminole Legacy Golf Club on the campus of Florida State. The Rattlers enter the tournament as the 13
