NSU's Shufford Receives Women Leaders in College Sports Scholarship

NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State Athletics Academic Coordinator Jenira Shufford will receive a scholarship from the NCAA and Women Leaders in College Sports this spring. The scholarship will allow her to attend the NCAA/Women Leaders in College Sports Institute for Administrative Advancement (IAA) program in May.
 
Approximately 75-85 applicants are selected to attend the program annually, with scholarship available for a select few. Selections for the IAA program are made based on ensuring diversity in age, administrative duties, division and ethnicity.
 
Goals of the program include improving work skills specific to athletic administration (fundraising, sports supervision, crisis management); developing strategies to determine a path toward career advancement; creating a new accountability network of women who can support in a career path; and self-exploration to discover the best version of professional and personal-self.
 
Applicants for the program must be a current member of Women Leaders in College Sports; have four to seven year of full time intercollegiate athletics administration experience; be currently working in athletics or desire to move into athletics administration; and be able to attend the entire week of the IAA program. This year's event will be held virtually from May 24-27.
 
In her role as athletics academic coordinator, Shufford overseas the sports of baseball and bowling while assisting with programming for personal development. She also manages the Student-Athlete Academic Support (SAAS) social media accounts and co-advises the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
 
The NCAA/Women Leaders in College Sports Institute for Administrative Advancement (IAA) is the premier level one leadership development program for women in intercollegiate athletics administration. An engaging faculty, including leaders representing all NCAA divisions and pioneers in women's athletics, prepare, empower and inspire participants to become successful administrators and advance within the profession.
