GREENSBORO, N.C. – The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) named North Carolina A&T State senior setter Edie Brewer an Honorable Mention All-American a week after naming her an All-South Region Honorable Mention.
AVCA's awards add to a long list of accomplishments for Brewer, including Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Year honors in the past two seasons and two straight First Team All-MEAC recognitions in the same span.
Over the past few months, the MEAC also recognized Brewer as one of its greatest players in the past 50 years. Brewer's ability to play all over the court has made her a valuable asset to the Aggies' success during her tenure.
This season, Brewer ranked fourth in the MEAC in assists per set (6.62), second in service aces per set (0.58), 10th in digs per set (2.47), and she also averaged 1.89 kills per set.
Against conference opponents, she averaged 6.69 assists per set, 0.75 services aces per set, 2.08 kills per set, and posted a .315 hitting percentage.
Her excellent season helped the Aggies win the MEAC Southern Division title and the 2021 MEAC tournament title, propelling the Aggies into the NCAA Tournament, where the 12th-ranked Penn State Nittany Lions eliminated them in the second round.
Their conference tournament title and NCAA Tournament appearance were first in the history of the program.
During the MEAC Championship, Brewer averaged 6.44 assists, 2.89 digs, 2.56 kills, 0.44 service aces and 0.33 blocks en route to being named to the All-Tournament Team and the tournament's Outstanding Performer.
Against the Nittany Lions, Brewer recorded 11 assists, six kills, two digs and a block.
