DOVER, Del., April 22, 2021 -- Delaware State head coach Rod Milstead is among the finalists for the prestigious Eddie Robinson Award for the top coach in college football's Division I subdivision for the spring 2021 season.
Named in honor of the late long-time Grambling State head football coach, the Eddie Robinson Award was first presented in 1987.
Delaware State matched its 2019 eleven-game total with two wins in five contests this spring, including a 37-28 victory at Howard on Apr. 3 to snap the Hornets' 34-game road losing streak. Delaware State fell short of its first winning season since 2012 with its 31-28 overtime loss to South Carolina State on April 17.
Milstead, a former All-America offensive lineman at Delaware State and eight-year National Football League player, became head football coach at his alma mater in 2018.
In December 2020, he was selected to the latest Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Hall of Fame class.
