MEAC Announces Weekly Softball Honors, presented by Coca-Cola

NORFOLK, Va., April 20, 2021Coppin State sophomore outfielder Ashley Weimann has been named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Softball Player of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola, it was announced on Tuesday.  Weimann’s teammate, freshman pitcher Vanessa Carrizosa, is the MEAC Rookie of the Week and she shares Pitcher of the Week honors with graduate pitcher Kiana Carr of Howard.
 
Weimann (OF, 5-10, So., Sheboygan, Wisc.) batted .625 during the Eagles’ 3-0 week, going 5-for-8 with two doubles, one triple and one home run. She also had six runs batted in and five runs scored while having one sacrifice hit and drawing a walk.
 
Carrizosa (P, 5-2, Fr., Moreno Valley, Calif.) went 2-0 during the week and recorded Coppin State’s first no-hitter in nine years, a feat she accomplished against South Carolina State. On the mound, she had a 2.33 ERA while striking out 12 batters. At the plate, she batted .500 (3-for-6) with three sacrifice hits.
 
Carr (P, 5-2, Gr., Phoenix, Ariz.) went 2-0 during the week with an ERA of 0.78. She struck out 20 batters, including 12 against North Carolina A&T State, and had a one-hitter against North Carolina Central.
 
Other Top Performers
Jaelyn Baker (Delaware State) batted .500 while going 5-for-10 with one home run, one triple and four RBIs as the Hornets went 2-1.
 
Maikyla Nelson (Delaware State) saw action in two games while compiling a 1.48 ERA and earning a win over South Carolina State.
 
Ayana Sallee (Howard) batted .461 while going 6-for-13 with one double, two RBIs and three runs scored as the Bison went 3-0 during the week.
 
Stephanie Rundlett (Morgan State) went 1-1 during the week while compiling a 1.75 ERA with 12 strikeouts.
 
Sarah Tuzinski (Morgan State) hit .375 while going 3-for-8 as the Bears went 1-3 during the week.
 
Jazzmaine Hammond (Norfolk State) went 8-for-12 for a .667 batting average with one double and one triple as the Spartans won two of three games during the week.
 
Kendall Macauley (North Carolina A&T State) batted .350 (7-for-20) with five RBIs and six runs scored.
 
S’Nyiah Stinson (North Carolina A&T State) saw action in three games for the Aggies, going 1-1 with an ERA of 1.56.
 
Joirea Dumas (North Carolina Central) hit a home run in four of five games played, becoming the first NCCU batter to hit homers in three consecutive games in the NCAA Division I era. She batted .444 for the week.
