GREENSBORO, N.C., April 20, 2021—Florida A&M won the 2021 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) men’s golf championship on Tuesday at the Bryan Park Golf Club, shooting a final-round 301 as a team.
The Rattlers claimed the first MEAC championship in program history.
For the tournament, FAMU shot a combined 35-over 755 (298-156-301). North Carolina A&T State, the tournament host, came in second with a 54-over 774 (313-151-310), while first-year program Howard (+62, 305-162-315=782) and North Carolina Central (+94, 330-157-327=814) rounded out the team standings.
FAMU’s Ethan Mangum led throughout and earned Outstanding Performer honors after winning the individual title with a 4-over 184 (70-39-75). His final-round 75 was tied for the second-lowest round of the day.
North Carolina A&T State’s Diego Gonzalez was second on the leaderboard with an 8-over 188 (74-39-75).
FAMU’s Mahindra Lutchman shot the low round of the day, a 74 to put him at +9 (75-40-74=189) for the 45-hole event. Lutchman came in third, followed by teammate Prince Cunningham in fourth (+11, 75-39-77=191).
There was a four-way tie for fifth at +13 (193) between FAMU’s Mulbe Dillard (80-38-75) and Howard’s Everett Whitten (77-41-75), Edrine Okong (74-43-76) and Gregory Odom (75-40-78).
The top five finishers were named to the All-Tournament Team. Whitten emerged from the four-way tie via USGA tiebreaker procedures.
