Howard University tees off for the Bison first-ever Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men's Golf Championship on Monday, April 19-20. at the Bryan Park Golf Club in Greensboro, N.C.
The golfers representing the Bison at this year's MEAC Golf Championship are junior Gregory Odom (Memphis, TN), junior Everett Whiten, Jr. (Chesapeake, VA), sophomore Edrine Okong (Lugaize, Uganda), freshman Joshua Siplin (Orlando, FL), graduate Otis Ferguson (Bloomfield Hills, MI) and freshman Richard Jones Jr. (Mastic, NY).
Odom enters the conference championship with the top finish in Howard's lone tournament this season, placing 19 at the Golden Horseshoe Intercollegiate and went 2-0 in match place, defeating Navy, George Washington, and Georgetown.
Joining Howard in the championship field are Florida A&M, North Carolina Central, and North Carolina A&T State.
Bethune-Cookman and Maryland Eastern Shore both opted out of the season. Five-time defending champion Augusta University will not compete due to a positive COVID-19 test within the Jaguars men's golf program.
The three-round championship will be played over the course of two days, beginning on Monday at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start for the first two rounds. The final round on Tuesday will start at 8 a.m.
Howard is looking to bring home its first Division I championship. The Bison brought home a pair of CIAA conference championships in the 1970s.
Thanks to the donation of Steph Curry and the foresight of Howard President Dr. Wayne A.I. Fredricks and Athletic Director Kery Davis, helped the Bison return to Howard University.
Since teeing off the season in March of 2021, the Bison has defeated Navy, George Washington University, and Georgetown University in Match Play and placed 13th out of 16 in the Golden Horseshoe Intercollegiate Golf Tournament hosted by Williams & Mary.
Head Coach Sam Puryear looking for his first MEAC title, won conference championships at Michigan State, Queens University of Charlotte, and won a national championship as an assistant coach at Stanford.
