BALTIMORE, Md., April 17, 2021 – The Howard University men's tennis team defeated conference foe Coppin State 5-2 at the CSU Tennis Complex on Saturday. With the win, Howard clinched a berth to the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Tennis Championships in Norfolk, Va.
Howard grabbed the upper hand in doubles competition, winning two out of three against the Eagles.
Senior Roger Lyn and sophomore Romani Mayers represented the Bison as the squad's top doubles team where they blanked Christopher Green and Dean Waterman, 6-0.
Freshmen duo Gabe Knowles and Justin Cadeau remain unbeaten in doubles play, knocking off Coppin State's Vansh Kapoor and Sergiu Medesan, 6-1.
In singles competition, Cadeau and Lyn won their respective matches in straight sets while newcomer Pierce Westbrook picked up another conference victory over the Green in consecutive sets (6-4, 6-3).
Howard enters the tournament with momentum, winning back-to-back matches for the first time in five seasons, dating back to March 2016.
Howard finished the regular season with a 2-3 overall mark (1-1 MEAC) and awaits pairings for the 2021 MEAC Tennis Championships in Norfolk, Va.
