BALTIMORE, Md., April 16, 2021 – The Howard University men's tennis team bounced back and grabbed its first win of the season, edging out Loyola (Md.) at the McClure Tennis Center, 4-3.

Howard broke its two-year skid with the victory, dating back to March 2019, while earning Bison Director of Tennis Nicholas Askew's first win.

"Today's win will be remembered for a long time," Askew said. "Coach Addison and I are proud to be alongside the team as they get back to their winning ways. We both know the journey will not be easy, but it will be a thrilling ride."

Howard held the upper hand early after winning two out of three in doubles competition, thanks to Roger Lyn pairing with Romani Mayers and freshmen duo Justin Cadeau and Gabe Knowles.

In singles play, Cadeau served as the team's top individual where he took down Loyola's Skyler Gates in three sets (3-6, 7-5, 6-1).

Lyn picked up his first win of the season, defeating the Greyhounds' Benny Glezer in straight sets (6-2, 6-1).

Mayers got back to his winning ways, securing his third singles victory of the year against LU's Edik Pribitkin in three frames (6-2, 6-7, 6-2).

"Today's win is a result of countless hours of preparation," Askew said. "Our men played the type of tennis we love to see leading into a shot at the conference championships. We have not solidified our chance to be there yet, but it's encouraging to see them competing so well at the right time."
